You’re breaking up: portable web services

Micro Persuasion hits on something right: the mega websites are breaking up. That is, they’re breaking out APIs and widgets and what not so that users can take the services they need where they want them–onto their netvibes page maybe. Organizing their internet so they have the services they need in one spot, their spot. Not a big branded spot.

Who’s into Red Interactive?

You can see who else is into Red Interactive when you visit their experimental site. And talk to them. It’s about a year old already, but it still blows my mind.

Cool factor aside, it’s like an inversion of the Zeus Jones idea. Rather than distribute your identity across the net, bring all the identities secretly viewing the site up front. And let them talk to each other.

You can even turn off the agency content.

Distributed Identity

Distributing your personal identity around the Net seems like a fact of modern internetting. You got your blog, your facebook page, your MySpace page (does anyone do that anymore? I mean aside from crap bands), your Twitter, your whatever… Sure, it raises your name in the old self-google search, but then you have to keep them up to date.

So how smart a strategy is this for brands? Agencies? Your momma?

Talent Imitates, Genius Steals talks about distributed identity & Zeus Jones.

And then there’s Modernista (look at the upper left). I think they may have crossed a line. But they definitely earn points for audacity.
